January is notoriously the time for detoxing. Have you thought about cleansing your system this New Year? A few people have been asking me about detoxing and what to do. There are numerous ‘detox diets’ out there that you can rigidly follow, but really it’s mainly down to healthy eating, so pile in the fruit and vegetables (sorry guys, you just can’t get away from the basics!).
But in addition to trying to take in your 5 a day, some of you may have heard about ‘Wheatgrass’. With many celebrities, such as Eva Longoria, Julia Roberts, Nicole Ritchie and Colin Farrell reportedly now taking regular wheatgrass drinks, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. Yes? Well then read on…
Wheatgrass is a powerful health food supplement that is packed with highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll and enzymes. It is a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot juice and other fruits and vegetables.
For example, 30mls of freshly squeezed wheatgrass juice is equivalent in nutritional value to 1 kg of leafy green vegetables, has more vitamin C than oranges, and twice the vitamin A as carrots! Chlorophyll is very similar to haemoglobin which is a material that transports oxygen in our blood and has the ability to remove toxic chemicals from our bloodstream. This makes it excellent for cleansing. Added benefits can include stopping the growth of unfriendly bacteria and can help with a range of skin disorders.
And with regards to exercise, it has been suggested that people who regularly drink wheatgrass juice experience an increase in energy levels. This increase in energy may help you work out longer and harder, so burning more calories in the process.
So, if you are considering detoxing this January, then I’d recommend taking in some wheatgrass juice, along with a wide range of fruit and vegetables. Give your body a great kick start to 2012!
And now for the good bit……if you fancy trying some of your very own wheatgrass juice then you’ll be glad to hear that Tribal Fitness has negotiated a special deal with Squeeze Juice Café, which is a local company and the only one in NI growing and juicing fresh wheatgrass. The Tribe can buy 4 weeks supply of wheatgrass shots for only £30 – a great saving of £10. The deal is only valid until 3rd Feb 2012 and all orders must be placed through Tribal Fitness, with payment at the time of ordering. So get in touch with Nikki to place your order and let the Tribe know if wheatgrass helps to kick start your New Year.
